The Bead Society made a field trip to the Mingei Museum in Balboa Park in May. We met up with the San Diego Bead Society. They had a very interesting speaker, Tracy Stanley from Seattle talking about “My Journey . . . From Seed Beads to Wire and Metal, and then to Author . . . Oh My!” Five of us were able to attend most of the presentation. Then we had lunch with the speaker and the Bead Society officers at a nearby restaurant.
Several more of our members arrived, and we all went on the docent led tour of the Museum. One of the highlights was the exhibit featuring various necklaces and bracelets by Sandy Swirnoff that revealed her passion for nature, color, and texture. There also was an interesting beaded purses exhibit. Some of our members recognized purses that they had, too.
We finished up our trip in the Mingei Museum gift shop which is always fun. Then we headed home.
